About Alex.txt - NotepadAbout Alex

I grew up in Zimbabwe, where the tokolosh is the bedtime story that keeps children in line. These days, Tokolosh is me: Alex Brakspear, an IT consultant for small and medium-sized businesses.

I specialise in Apple kit and networking, and I know Windows well enough to make the two work together. Networks, Wi-Fi, storage, servers, the cloud: if it’s slowing your team down, I can help.

What we do

6 object(s)Apple-focused. Windows-friendly.

Managed services

Your IT, looked after around the clock.

We keep an eye on your systems day and night, so problems are caught early, often before anyone in the office notices.

As a Microsoft Partner, we can run Microsoft 365 for you, or Google Workspace if you prefer: user accounts, email, shared files and the security settings behind them. When someone joins or leaves, we handle the setup.

And you always deal with Alex, who knows how your business is set up.

Local and remote support

Help in person or on screen, whenever you need it.

When something stops working, we can fix it remotely over TeamViewer or come to you.

Book us for a one-off job, or choose a support contract that fits how your team works. All-in plans include on-site visits at no extra cost.

IT security

Protection for businesses where information matters.

We design, set up and support the security systems and procedures that keep your information safe, from the network to the devices your team uses every day.

Depending on your business, that can include firewalls, secure Wi-Fi, device management and encryption, and clear policies your staff will actually follow.

Backup and disaster recovery

Backups that work when you need them.

We’ll set up best-practice backup and recovery to suit your business and budget, saving you time and money and giving you peace of mind.

That covers everything that matters: your Macs and PCs, servers and shared storage, and cloud services like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, which need backing up too. Copies are kept in more than one place, including off site, so a fire, flood, theft or ransomware attack can’t take everything at once.

A backup is only useful if you can restore from it, so we check that backups run and that files can be recovered. If the worst happens, you’ll have a plan for getting back up and running.

Computers, servers and cloud services, backed up and tested

Cyber Essentials Plus and GDPR

Get certified, and handle personal data properly.

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme that shows your business has basic protections against common cyber attacks in place. Cyber Essentials Plus adds an independent, hands-on technical check.

We’ll assess where you stand, help close any gaps and get you ready for certification. We can also help you prepare for GDPR, so personal data is stored and protected properly.

Online presence

Help your business stand out online.

Whether it’s your website, your domain and business email, or keeping your details up to date across the web, we can help.

Take as much or as little help as you need, from a one-off tidy-up to ongoing management.

Cloud services

Your cloud systems, set up properly and kept that way.

As an Apple Technical Partner and a Microsoft Partner, we set up and manage Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for small and medium-sized businesses: email, calendars, chat and video calls, shared drives and the accounts that tie them all together.

Day to day, we look after users and licences, security settings such as multi-factor sign-in, sharing permissions and backups, so your team can work from anywhere without the headaches.

And it doesn’t stop there. We manage many other cloud systems too, from online file storage and backup to the business apps your team relies on. If it lives in the cloud, ask us.

Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and more

Network

Fast, reliable networks that keep your business connected.

Networking is one of Alex’s specialities. We design, install and look after business networks from a single office upwards, with the cabling, switches and routers set up around how your team works.

That means strong Wi-Fi in every corner, a separate guest network for visitors, secure remote access for anyone working from home, and firewalls that keep the wrong people out.

Once it’s running, we keep an eye on it, keep it updated and fix problems quickly, so your network just works. Mac, Windows or both, we make everything talk to each other.

Who we are

Tokolosh IT is the trading name of Tokolosh Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 09609191) with its registered office at Milton House, Main Road, Temple Cloud, Bristol BS39 5BH. Tokolosh Ltd is responsible (the “data controller”) for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us about it by phone on 07854 385 307, through the contact form on this website, or by post at the address above.

What we collect and why

  • Enquiries. If you use our contact form, call or email us, we collect your name, contact details and anything you tell us, so that we can reply and, if you wish, give you a quote or support. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, or because you have asked us to take steps before entering into a contract.
  • Customers. If you become a customer, we keep the contact, billing and support records we need to provide our services and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Your service agreement sets out the details.
  • Your settings on this website. The site remembers a few choices in your own browser, such as the PC or Mac look, dark mode and the screensaver setting. These stay on your device, are not sent to us and are not used to track you.

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we never sell your information.

Services we use

  • Web3Forms delivers messages sent through our contact form to our inbox.
  • Google provides the maps on this site (loaded only when you open a map window) and our Google reviews (shown with reviewers’ public Google names and photos). When your browser loads these, Google receives technical information such as your IP address, under Google’s own privacy policy.
  • Our website hosting provider stores this website and keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries that don’t lead to any work for up to 12 months. We keep customer records for six years after our work ends, to meet tax and legal requirements, and then delete them securely.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, or ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Contact us using the details above and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
